Subject Description

Upon completion of this subject students should have an understanding of the way in which the principles and techniques of remote sensing can be applied to aid in the solution of resource management and other problems.

The content of the course will include applications of remote sensing in resource mapping and monitoring, in the geosciences and in engineering as well as military and social planning applications. This will include a consideration of the image processing techniques used in each application, the capabilities of current sensor systems, the difficulties of operational implementation and the future potential in each application area.

Assessment

One 3-hour written examination, plus assignments and practical exercise reports totalling not more than 40 pages. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be provided to students at the beginning of the subject.
