Subject Description | This subject introduces students, who have little prior knowledge of economics, to the principal framework by which economists assess decision-making within the public sector and the techniques they use to assist in making these decisions. The subject covers cost determinants, pricing policies, business organisation structures, market structures, cost-benefit analysis, income distribution, equity and income redistribution. These topics will be illustrated with examples from the public sector, government decision-making on the environment, trade practices legislation and microeconomic reform including privatisation. |
Assessment | A 2-hour examination and two assignments totalling 2000 words. |
