Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to microeconomic theory and policy. Topics include the economy and economic decisions; production and exchange; markets, demand and supply; application of supply and demand; market structures; firm costs; perfect competition; monopoly; and government in the economy.

Assessment

A 2-hour end-of-semester examination and an optional 40-minute mid-semester examination totalling 80%, with the final mark given being the better of (a) the mid-semester examination weighted 20% and the end-of-semester examination weighted 60% or (b) the end-of-semester examination weighted 80%; assignments not exceeding 2000 words (10%); tutorial attendance and participation (10%).
