Subject Description

On completion of the subject, students should have an understanding of the principles of commercial forestry; an ability to undertake financial analysis of various management alternatives; and understand and have skills in using advanced forest planning techniques. The content of the subject includes commercial objectives; advanced budgeting; financial Management and valuation; advanced silviculture; long and short term planning systems; linear programming and simulation models as applied to forest management alternatives; and cost competitiveness, technological improvement and product mix.

Assessment

One 3-hour written examination at the end of semester and practical assignments throughout the semester.
