Subject Description

The subject introduces the concept of extension and discusses the role of extension and the importance of Landcare in land management.

On completion of this subject, students should:

  • understand the role, objectives and organisation of the Landcare movement;

  • be aware of Landcare rehabilitation techniques, including soil, weed control and waterway management;

  • be aware of the funding, projects and outcomes of Landcare;

  • be able to use community education and extension techniques;

  • be familiar with rural social processes and forestry extension;

  • and be familiar with environmental and conservation legislation.

The subject covers the areas of:

  • the Landcare movement, its role and objectives;

  • rehabilitation techniques, soil, weed control and waterway management;

  • and community education and forestry extension. environmental and conservation legislation.

Assessment

One two-and-a-half written examination worth 40% of final marks, two assignments equivalent to 300 words and worth 30% of final marks each.
