Subject Description

This subject should provide students with an understanding of the identification, biology and ecology of Australian vertebrate and invertebrate fauna.

The content includes:

  • Origins and diversity of Australian vertebrates and invertebrates, nomenclature and taxonomy of the Australian fauna;

  • biology and ecology of the major invertebrate and vertebrate groups;

  • and identification of insects, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals.

Assessment

A two-hour examination (40%), a practical examination (30%), and a 3000 word assignment (30%).
