Subject Description | This subject is designed to present students with knowledge and skills relating to the modification of general social work practice when working with certain populations. In particular the subject will address social work practice with Indigenous Australian groups, multiculturally sensitive practice and work with gay and lesbian clients. Students who complete the subject should understand ways in which the various identities of diverse populations can be characterised, the potential problems of overgeneralisation, and the implications for diversity-sensitive practice; be able to identify issues for improving the accuracy of assessment with diverse populations; and be able to utilise distinctive and sensitive strategies for intervention with diverse populations. |
Assessment | A take-home examination totalling 4000 words. Attendance at a minimum of 75% of tutorials is a requirement for this subject. |
