37.5 points of second/third year linguistics and applied linguistics including 175-016 Semantics for third year. 175-016 Semantics and admission to the Postgraduate Diploma or Fourth Year Honours in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics for fourth year.

Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to formal semantics and a consideration of a range of current topics in semantic theory including the major problems of analysis and description, and some competing approaches which have been taken to these problems in linguistics and related disciplines such as philosophy. Students will learn a particular formal semantic theory and acquire skills in formal analysis within this theory.
