Two 1-hour lectures and a tutorial per week. There will be no tutorials in the first and the sixth week of semester

Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to the ways in which culture is represented in language and the role of the cultural component in language. Topics include the ethnography of communication, politeness, language and thought, and biculturalism.

Assessment

Two practical assignments of 1000 words each, and an essay of 2000 words.
