Subject Description | This subject analyses historical aspects of German politics relevant to today's problems - including issues of identity, extremist politics, citizenship, integration of the two Germanys, and Germany's relations with its neighbours. Throughout the subject, German developments will be related to broader political and social theorising about the West and late-modernity. Students who complete this subject should: learn about specific contemporary problems in Germany, particularly those connected with unification in 1990; locate these problems in more general discourses about advanced industrial European societies; and analyse the impact of German problems on Germany's neighbours. |
