Subject Description

Both continental and English-speaking philosophers will be included in this advanced study of conceptual and ethical problems posed by our existence as embodied individuals and social beings. Embodiment will be explored from a variety of angles: phenomenological, epistemological and ethical. Topics to be covered may include the lived body; the sexed body; bodies and ritual; monstrous bodies; and bodies after Freud. The subject will help students in the investigation of the problems posed by embodied existence from a variety of philosophical perspectives: phenomenological, epistemological and ethical.
