Subject Description

This subject involves a study of the development of Jewish civilisation from antiquity to the present, focusing on the transformation of life in the modern period. Students who successfully complete the subject should understand the emergence of Jews from traditional ghetto society, and the variety of social, ideological and cultural forms in which the Jewish encounter with gentile society was expressed.
