Subject Description | This subject examines Australian histories from World War I through to the 1990s. Students will examine the ways key events and social trends (war, depression, immigration, economic developments, Indigenous rights, regionalism, urbanisation etc.) have shaped notions of identity, community and nationhood. Students should develop a knowledge and understanding of the relationships between public and private historical experiences, with particular reference to oral histories and life stories; and of how social tradition, race relations, sense of place, etc. have influenced understandings of and contestations over the meanings of 'Australianness' and 'Australia' in the 20th century. |
Assessment | Class participation and written work totalling 4000 words. |
