Subject Description

This subject focuses on various aspects of contemporary German language. It aims at consolidating and expanding students' proficiency in both written and spoken language, and continues the development of communicative skills with reference to the main registers of contemporary German. The subject will also aim at demonstrating the differences between colloquial, formal and specialist registers and at furthering skills in oral and written communication. This is combined with a study of language functions and grammatical structures. Students should develop their listening skills through the use of different types of audio-visual materials, and their writing and reading skills through a variety of text types and sources. Students will participate in project-oriented group activities which make extensive use of the internet and the latest electronic technologies, as a resource and medium for the dissemination of student projects.

Assessment

A 2-hour language test, an aural test, a 10-minute oral examination, and written work totalling 1000 words in German.
