Subject Description

This subject consists of a 1-hour lecture and a 1-hour option. Students will be introduced to important cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of the German language. Students will be given the opportunity to develop topics of interest within these general areas and will be introduced to a variety of specialist terminology within these general areas. The objectives of the area studies vary according to the options chosen. Students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into 126-017 Advanced German 2 (Core) A and 126-015 if proceeding to German at second year, or admittance into 126-018 Advanced German 3 (Core) A or 126-006 and 126-021 German 3 Intermediate B or 126-018 and 126-019 if proceeding to German at third year.

Assessment

Two 1-hour written exams or written work totalling 2000 words.
