Prerequisites | Completion of 200 points including at least 50 points from subjects in geography, environmental studies and environmental science at second/third year or permission of the subject coordinator. Students enrolled in the Master of Contemporary Asian Analysis and students completing a major in Asian studies within the BA degree are exempt from these prerequisites. |

Subject Description | This subject consists of a two-week field trip to China in July with follow-up classes in Melbourne in Semester 2. The subject is designed to develop students' interests in Asia, in China in particular, and in the impacts of economic and social development on the environment. While in China, students will interact with local academics and environmental managers who will inform them about issues and processes in China. This will be supplemented by site visits. The field trip will be under the supervision of the subject coordinators. Students are responsible for the cost of airfares, accommodation and food. |
Assessment | A project proposal of 1500 words at third year, 2000 words at fourth year, and a research paper of 6500 words at third year, 8000 words at fourth year. |
