Subject Description

The Sino-Tibetan language family comprises several hundred languages with enormous diversity, complexity and time depth. The genetic relationship between Chinese and Tibetan can be established, using the comparative method in historical linguistics. How these languages were formed and how they interacted with each other over time is crucial to our understanding of the early history and culture of this region. This subject will discuss these issues by guiding the students to seek answers from the available evidence.
