Eight hours of language classes, 1-hour self-learning in both computer and language laboratory per week

Subject Description

This is the beginners post-introductory level subject. It provides students with further expressions to facilitate clarity of expression and ability to manage daily life in Japan smoothly. Students will learn a further 140 basic kanji (Chinese characters) which are essential to basic reading. Through learning these additional kanji, students will be equipped with meta-cognitive awareness of kanji, which promote further kanji learning. Students are also introduced to further aspects of Japanese culture which influences its language use. Their Japanese acquisition will be also assisted by independent learning in computer assisted language learning and language laboratory use.

Assessment

A 2-hour final examination, a 1-hour mid-semester examination, assignments totalling 2000 words, and quizzes, oral, and listening tests totalling 3000 words.
