Subject Description

This subject will focus on a topic of contemporary or special interest which may vary from year to year, such as 'Nature, Mankind and the Environment' or 'Orthodoxy and the Subversive in Chinese Culture and Society'. For the topic to be addressed in 2001, consult the Chinese Course and Subject Guide for details. The course will include readings in Chinese and English. Guest speakers may be invited to some seminars. Students who complete this subject should gain an in-depth knowledge of a topic of contemporary or special interest in Chinese studies, skills in analyzing primary and secondary Chinese sources (including some in Chinese), skill in precis writing and familiarity with public or academic discourse in a particular subject area.
