Subject Description

This subject provides a contrastive study of some major Slavic languages, including Czech, Polish, Serbian, Croatian, Ukrainian and Russian. It compares and contrasts such aspects as their sounds and scripts (phonetics and orthography), grammatical structure and sentence structure (morphology and syntax) and vocabulary (lexicology). On completing the subject students should be familiar with the distinctive linguistic features of the languages studied contrastively and be able to analyse texts in the primary language under investigation.
