 5. Practicum requirements

Bachelor of Teaching students complete a minimum of 45 days of supervised practice teaching in schools plus an extended internship in final year. Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching students should note that they are expected to meet their practicum commitments where these may occur in semester breaks at the same time as some music subjects are offered on an intensive basis.

 6. Honours degrees

Students who wish to complete the Bachelor of Teaching (Honours) within fourth and fifth year will be able to apply in the same way as all other Bachelor of Teaching students.

 7. Deferral

Deferral of a place in the combined course is not available.

 8. Part-time studies

Part-time studies are available in the first three years of the combined course (the music component) but not in fourth and fifth year (the BTeach component).

 9. Selection into the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Teaching

Students must initially gain admission to the Bachelor of Music through the normal VTAC processes. At the end of second year of the Bachelor of Music, students who have completed at least 87.5 points, including all compulsory first year subjects, can apply for the combined course by submitting an internal transfer form to the Faculty of Education. Admission to the combined course is also possible after third year, provided that the prerequisite subjects for two teaching areas have been completed. Selection will be based on academic merit.
