1. Completing a sequence in Australian Indigenous studies

The University of Melbourne and the Faculty of Arts currently teach a range of subjects across many departments in the general field of Indigenous studies. The appointment in February 2000 of Professor Marcia Langton to the Chair of Australian Indigenous Studies created the opportunity to bring together this teaching and research into a coordinated Interdepartmental Program in Australian Indigenous Studies.

At present a major in Australian Indigenous studies is not offered. However, students interested in undertaking a program of study in Australian Indigenous studies are encouraged to complete a sequence of subjects from those listed below.

The sequence, taken in conjunction with a major in anthropology, cultural studies, development, environmental studies, history or linguistics (or other area of study in which Indigenous studies is undertaken) may, with the approval of the relevant head of department and the Chair of Australian Indigenous Studies, lead to honours and ultimately higher degree study with a focus on Australian Indigenous studies.

Interested students are encouraged to consult with the Australian Indigenous Studies Program Office, housed in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies:
