Subject Description | This subject focuses on the history and characteristics of Vietnamese linguistics with particular attention being paid to the styles of written Vietnamese. The literature of and social changes during the period of French domination from 1862 to 1945 are also studied. On completion of the subject students should begin to recognise and use the different nuances and stylistic features of both written and spoken Vietnamese; and have an understanding of the impact of French domination on Vietnamese society and culture from 1862 to 1945. |
Assessment | An assignment of 2000 words, a book review of 1500 words, a 15-minute oral presentation, and a 3-hour examination. Students must attend at least 70% of classes to be eligible for assessment. |
