Subject Description | The focus of this subject is the present reality of Spain in its cultural and linguistic diversity, the role of Spain in the modern world, the position of women in contemporary Spanish society and the historical background to the modern world (civil war, transition from dictatorship to democracy). In relation to these facets of Spain, a range of films, as well as texts and at least one painting - 'Guernica' - will be considered. Students who complete the subject should have an understanding of the socio-historical and cultural reality that is contemporary Spain; and have a sense of the richness and diversity of Spanish culture and the arts. |
Assessment | A 500 word written exercise, a 1500 word essay, a 10-minute oral presentation, a 1.5-hour test and class participation. |
