Subject Description

The object of this subject is to develop in the participant an ability to:

  • interpret site conditions and select appropriate plant and turf types;

  • demonstrate a thorough understanding of plant availability, garden bed preparation, selection and planting;

  • prepare, establish and maintain sodded and seeded areas;

  • demonstrate an ability to analyse and renovate degraded turf areas;

  • demonstrate an ability to interpret the design of landscape to be managed and maintained;

  • demonstrate an understanding of the management and maintenance requirements of various landscapes and their components.

The content includes: The interpretation of site conditions with respect to plant and selection and establishment, planting, transplanting and plant establishment, the analysis of a degraded turf area and the development of a renovation and maintenance program for the area, the preparation and construction of a seeded or sodded turf area, the defects and liability period of a construction contract, the interpretation of established landscapes, the development of a management strategy and maintenance program for an established landscape, costing of construction techniques, work scheduling, site management.

Assessment

Examination (90 minutes) (30%), assignment (35%), practical skills (35%).
