Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend the participant's ability to:

  • to apply the principles and practices of marketing a range of nursery products;

  • organise and implement the retail sale of nursery stock;

  • evaluate the use of information technology facilities in a nursery environment and perform basic computer skills linked to these facilities;

  • supervise a small group of workers in a production or retail nursery;

  • research, cultivate and market a greenhouse nursery crop.

The content includes: Research and undertake the management of selected greenhouse crops, organise and implement the retail sale of nursery stock, construct displays for retailing of nursery stock (incorporating issues discussed in Horticultural Retailing), computer applications in production and retail nurseries.

Assessment

One examination of 30 minutes (20%); two assignments (2 x 40%).
