Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend the participant's ability to:

  • describe and schedule the production requirements for specified nursery crops;

  • research and present information in a seminar environment on the commercial production of specified nursery crops;

  • compare and evaluate different nursery irrigation systems and fertiliser methods;

  • describe the role of plant growth regulators and their alternatives in nursery production;

  • describe the role nursery accreditation has on crop hygiene and plant quality.

The content includes: Production cycles, sources of information, production scheduling, comparative irrigation systems, fertiliser practices, plant growth regulators, comparison of production systems, nursery accreditation, seminar presentations.

Assessment

One assignment/seminar presentation (40%); one production report (20%); a written examination (40%).
