Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend the participant's ability to:

  • determine the location, condition and health of trees;

  • develop and implement strategies to alleviate stress on trees;

  • design tree surveys for a range of situations;

  • assess and report on tree hazards to structures and people;

  • place a monetary value on trees;

  • understand the law as it applies to trees and tree related issues;

  • compile management plans for treescapes;

  • develop strategies to protect trees on development sites;

  • appreciate the issues and value of insurance in the tree industry;

  • estimate the cost of arboricultural works.

The content includes: Tree diagnosis, hazard tree assessment, tree surveys and reports, street tree inventories, tree valuation, insurance and trees, trees and built structures, development sites, tree location, estimating arboricultural works.

Assessment

Examination 90 minutes (50%), assignments (50%).
