Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend the participant's ability to:

  • perform advanced pruning techniques;

  • practice safe techniques for advanced tree climbing;

  • undertake rescues of personnel in trees;

  • design and install tree bracing systems;

  • recognise hazards in arboriculture;

  • supervise the safety and operation of an arboricultural work site;

  • prune trees adjacent to electrical conductors.

The content includes: Advanced climbing; pruning large trees; designing and installing tree bracing systems; arboricultural safety and management of personnel; rescue of personnel in trees; crown restoration, pollarding, thinning and reduction; pruning of trees near electrical conductors; tree clearance code of practice.

Assessment

Examination 90 minutes (40%), assignments (20%), practical exercises (40%).
