Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend participants' ability to:

  • describe and analyse environmental issues relating to horticulture;

  • analyse the multi-disciplinary nature of environmental issues and their management;

  • apply ecological concepts and management practices to assessment of major issues of conservation.

The topics described in this subject are addressed in a multi-disciplinary approach based on systems analysis and related to: wild harvesting, gene pools, revegetation, pollution, soils, legislation, water, interest groups, big industry population, applied ecology and conservation, land rehabilitation and degradation.

Assessment

Essay (40%), class participation (10%), final exam (50%).
