Subject Description

The object of this subject is to develop in the participant an ability to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of landscape design principles;

  • undertake a site analysis including visual, physical and environmental qualities of the site;

  • demonstrate an ability to interpret a client's requirements;

  • demonstrate a ability to develop concept master and planting plans;

  • achieve a intermediate level of graphic communication;

  • demonstrate an understanding of materials performance supply and costing for commonly used components in the landscape.

The content includes: The principles of landscape design and how they have evolved to fit the needs of clients in an historical and contemporary sense, techniques of site analysis and planning, developing and interpreting a brief, the development of concept master and planting plans, the development of graphic techniques, source the supply and cost of propriety materials used in the industry.

Assessment

Examination (60 minutes) (20%), assignment (20%), graphical skills (60%).
