Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to extend the participant's ability to:

  • describe the ornamental horticulture industry and its various sectors;

  • describe the features of historical and contemporary garden and landscape design styles and identify the social, climatic and artistic influences which aided their formation;

  • describe critical environmental factors which affect plant growth.

The content includes: The structure, information sources and basic science supporting industry sectors of ornamental horticulture; introductory history of garden and landscape design; the influence of critical climatic factors on the selection and growth of plants.

Assessment

Assignment of 1500 words (30%); reports (30%); examination of 60 minutes (40%).
