Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to enable participants to:

  • appreciate the role of agricultural exports to the Australian economy;

  • understand the major international bodies controlling world trade;

  • prepare documentation for export and import of goods and services;

  • understand legal aspects of importing and exporting;

  • understand the financing of international trade arrangements;

  • appreciate the role of culture in international trade.

The content includes: Role of international trade to Australian agribusiness. Trading blocks and international conventions. Export/import procedures. Law and international trade. Environmental and cultural influences on trade patterns. The economics of world trade. Finance and banking facilities. Agents and promotion. Place and effect of multinational technique in overcoming barriers to international product distribution.

Assessment

Internal students - Two assignments of 2000 words (30% each); one two hour examination (40%). External students - Three assignments (26%; 34%; 40%).
