Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to enable the student to:

  • investigate the integration of tourism into the rural community;

  • define the economic and social benefits of rural tourism to the farmer, tourists and the general community.

The content includes: An overview of the marketing of the Australian 'bush' and country hospitality, together with rural tourism as an economically viable option for supplementing the farm income; topics such as host family, bed and breakfast accommodation, horse-riding trails, etc., will be investigated as well as issues in establishing a tourism enterprise.

Assessment

Essay of 1500 words (30%); major case study of 3000 words (70%).
