Subject Description

On completion of this subject students should have gained an extensive knowledge of the structures and contexts of the genres studied, a working knowledge of theoretical writings and analytical methods of the topic studied, and an ability to apply these methods to similar genres and to undertake independent research.

Some seminar topics available are: Music Iconography, Baroque Music of the German Speaking World, Music Aesthetics, Music of Spain, Theory and Method in Ethnomusicology. More topics available from the Faculty.

Assessment

An essay or class assignments up to 3000 words (50%); a written examination or end-of-semester project (50%).
