Subject Description | Continuing from 740-138 Introduction To Music 1-1, this subject involves the materials of music, an introduction to harmonic writing techniques; and an introduction to music of the western tradition. By the end of semester, students should be able to read, notate and recognise aurally simple melodies and basic diatonic progressions, melodies and intervals and to discuss the principal movements in western musical history from 1800 to the present and their characteristics. |
Assessment | Regular listening and writing tests, and an end-of-semester sight singing test and written examination. |
