Subject Description | A basic introduction to legal history and the major elements of liberal legal theory. It examines the origins and development of the Anglo-Australian legal system and its relations with pre-existing indigenous laws. It examines the liberal concepts of responsible government, separation of powers, the rule of law, judicial independence and objectivity, individual rights and the limits of state intervention. |
Assessment | A group project presented in class and submitted in writing (1000 words in length) (pass/fail), and a research essay of 3500 words (absolute maximum) to be submitted in the 12th week of semester (100%). |
