Subject Description | This subject will provide students with a basic understanding of the Australian system of housing provision with a focus on the problem of sustainable development. This problem, as it concerns housing provision, is considered from ecological, social, political and economic perspectives. Elements of the housing systems: production, consumption, exchange and management in a market society. Comparison with systems in other countries. Key issues in housing provision: affordability, social polarisation and resource productivity. Solutions to the problem of sustainability in terms of the house, the neighbourhood and the housing system. |
Assessment | Assessment to the equivalent of 7500 words: Housing Sustainability exercise (20%), tutorial paper and participation (40%), research essay (40%). |
