Subject Description | The subject explores construction management theory and practice, through the scheduling of work and the organisational theory of the management of projects. The subject assumes prior understanding of elementary computer-based scheduling techniques, and explores more advanced time management techniques including the use of a schedule as a target, project work sequencing, updating a project schedule, reporting project progress, work planning and cash flow management. The theory component addresses understanding of the relationships and strategies employed in construction, including feedback systems, buildability, staffing a project team, company organisation, learning curves, and the relationships between clients and contractors. The assignments allow students to focus in more detail on areas of their own interest and to either complete an investigation project or to schedule a complex computer based schedule. |
Assessment | One 2-hour examination (50%). Staged assignments to the equivalent of not more than 5000 words (50%). |
