Subject Description | A historical study of the use of materials and the means of constructing buildings from antiquity to the twentieth century comparing equivalent materials and trades between cultures, and exploring the transmission of skills and techniques from one to another. Students will develop skills in information gathering and critical synthesis, essay and report writing, and visual and oral presentation techniques required for the independent interpretation of these insights. |
Assessment | An essay, class paper, reports and exercises (drawn or written) to the equivalent of not more than 5000 words, and one 90 minute examination. |
