 654-315 Marine Ecological Methods

Note

  • Experiments involving the use of animals are an essential part of this subject; exemption is not possible.

  • Students may not gain credit for 654-315 and 654-302 Experimental Marine Biology.

  • Students cannot take this subject and Zoology 654-309 in the same year because the respective field trips overlap.

Subject Description

The subject covers current methods used for sampling and experimentation involving marine biota, including growth, life history, and demography of marine organisms, species interactions, and the effects and detection of natural and human-induced disturbances. The use of ecological principles for managing commercially harvested marine organisms is also covered. Practical work involves survey and experimental design and analysis, and students will develop an understanding of the major methods used for sampling marine organisms and be capable of applying those methods.
