Subject Description | Systems Physiology will enable students to comprehend how the organ systems integrate with neural and hormonal systems to maintain normal body functions. Students will develop theoretical and communication skills in using biological, biochemical and physiological approaches to investigate physiological processes. Content encompasses material from Systems Physiology Part A (semester 1) and study of the circulatory adjustments with changes in body function, maintenance of muscle function, fetal growth and reproduction, and adaptation to climate changes. The practical component is designed to develop skills of experimentation including experimental design, experimentation and data collection, data analysis, cumulating in manuscript preparation and scientific writing. The assignment is to enhance critical reading and analysis of physiological reports. |
Assessment | A laboratory report of not more than 2000 words in manuscript form as indicated in handout, a student assignment of not greater than 1500 words, a student report of not more than 500 words, and a 3 hour end of year examination. Students must obtain a satisfactory standard in the reports to be eligible for the final examination. The end of year exam will be based on material covered in both 536-301 and 536-311. |
