One 3-hour lecture a week for 2 weeks and a series of field trips over 8 days

Subject Description

This subject has been designed for students who wish to experience and gain an understanding of some of Australia's unique wilderness environments. The educational setting for most of this subject will be on field trips in wilderness locations.

Topics will include: historical perspectives of the relationship between humans and nature; the contributions of education to understanding the natural environment; psycho-evolutionary theory; the nature of wilderness and its influence on human behaviour; aesthetic responses to the natural world.

Assessment

A class paper presented orally (10%); written work not exceeding 4000 words (90%).
