Subject Description

A study of how children's behaviour relates to brain structure and function. Topics may include an introduction to the organisation of the brain and principles of neural development; how the brain learns and remembers; how language is organised in the brain; the brain's control of movement; emotional development and the brain; and gender and the developing brain. Anomalies of brain development will be considered through current research on links between brain and behaviour in, for example, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, Tourette's Syndrome, dyslexia, learning disorders, aphasia, epilepsy and Down Syndrome.

Assessment

Written work equivalent to 5000 words.
