Subject Description

A study of the effects of a range of developmental differences commonly found in young children. Anomalies of development will be considered through examination of current understandings of brain behaviour relationships in conditions such as: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, learning disabilities, dyslexia, specific language impairments, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy. Further topics may include: congenital anomalies, including spina bifida and heart malformations; causes and consequences of intellectual disability; disorders of eating and sleeping; fears, phobias and anxiety; stress, depression and aggression; sensory impairment especially of hearing and vision; genetic disorders such as Down Syndrome, cystic fibrosis and thalassaemia.

Assessment

Assignment(s) totalling 2000 words, and a 2-hour written examination.
