Subject Description

The focus of this subject is on the components of best practice in programs for infants and toddlers, and the provision of high quality care and education. Key areas of curriculum for children 0-3 years will be studied, including adult-child interaction, caregiving routines, play, developmental appropriateness, and individualised planning. Emphasis will be given to the relationship between developmental sequences in children under three and curriculum implications. Students will be exposed to curriculum strategies which recognise young children as active participants in their own learning. Students will review and evaluate appropriate activities, learning environments, curriculum resources, and guidance strategies for children aged birth to three years.

Assessment

Essay and assignments totalling 4000 words.
