Subject Description | This unit aims to provide students with an understanding of the theoretical concepts and principles of satellite positioning and navigation systems and the various applications of these systems. Concepts of positioning from space, structure of the Global Positioning System (GPS), autonomous and relative positioning, accuracy limits and error sources, instrumentation, survey planning, field procedures, data processing and reduction, geodetic reference systems, heights from GPS, the future of satellite positioning. |
Assessment | Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, and not more than the equivalent of 40 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject. |
