Subject Description | Students completing this course should have a deeper understanding of the finite element method and should develop advanced analysis skills in the other topics selected. The content of the course will comprise a selection from: The Finite element method. Application to practical problems in stress analysis. Bending and buckling of plates and shells, Anisotropic elasticity and its application to composite materials. Viscoelasticity. Engineering plasticity. Variational methods including Trefft2, Rayleigh-Ritz and Galerkin, Experimental stress analysis. |
Assessment | One examination not exceeding three hours and assignments of a maximum of 5000 words or equivalent. Students will be notified of the weighting of assessment components at the beginning of semester. |
