Subject Description | The objective of this subject is to give students a knowledge of how to determine the integrand so as to extremise the integral and how to integrate functions without determining the anti-derivative. Topics covered include: Part 1 Advanced Equations: Delayed equations, difference equations, functional equations, integral equations of Fredholm and Volterra types, chaotic systems of equations. Part 2 Perturbation Methods: Regular perturbations, the two types of singular perturbations, asymptotic behaviour for both boundary layers and long times. |
Assessment | One written examination not exceeding three hours. Plus additional tests and assignments to a maximum value of 10%. |
