Subject Description

The components of a Civil or Environmental Engineering project; Standard methods of measurement; Case study description of a project. Lessons from unsuccessful projects. The relationship between structural form and material behaviour.

The relationship between material properties and micro-structure as applied to civil engineering materials. The properties of masonry as they are affected by material quality and workmanship. Application and properties of sealants and protective coatings.

Assessment

Two assignments each of up to 3000 words or equivalent (40%) and a written examination not exceeding three hours (60%).
